Vanessa Y. Oviedo

I’m a first-generation graduate student studying Cognitive Psychology under the supervision of Dr. Jean E. Fox Tree at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Prior to becoming a graduate student, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at California State University, Long Beach in 2014 and spent five years working in the field. I obtained my Masters of Science in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz in 2021.

My research focuses on how modality switching, or switching between two communication media, affects how we perceive and interact with our conversational partners. I am also interested in prosody and intonational meaning, as well as how having diverse addressees affects our ability to communicate more effectively.
